What is AV staging?
AV staging is the practice of parking autonomous vehicles in dedicated spaces close to where riders request trips — instead of sending empty vehicles back to a central depot between rides. A staged vehicle sits near demand, ready for its next dispatch. An unstaged one burns miles going nowhere.
In one sentence: staging lots for autonomous vehicles are small, distributed parking footprints near demand that let fleets hold vehicles between trips without long, empty repositioning drives.
Why staging matters
Today, most fleets run on a depot model: vehicles return to a central lot for charging, cleaning, and downtime. Depots are necessary — but every empty mile to and from a depot is a mile with no rider in the car and no revenue attached. As fleets scale into dense urban neighborhoods, the distance between depot and demand becomes pure cost.
Depot model
One central lot, far from riders. Every gap between trips means an empty round trip. Depots stay essential for charging, cleaning, and maintenance.
Staged model
Dedicated spaces near demand. Vehicles wait where the next trip starts, and depots handle only the work that truly requires them.
How AV staging works with Park AV
- 1
Find
A fleet secures a dedicated space in a parking facility near the neighborhoods it serves.
- 2
Reserve
Dispatch holds the space through the Park AV API with a 30-minute hold while a vehicle is en route.
- 3
Arrive & stage
The vehicle parks and waits near demand. Any vehicle in the fleet can rotate through the same dedicated spot, one at a time.
- 4
Depart & dispatch
When a ride is requested nearby, the vehicle departs from minutes away instead of across town.
- 5
Record
Every arrival and departure is logged, so fleets can see the true cost per staging event.
Who AV staging is for
Autonomous fleet operators
Keep vehicles productive by staging near demand. $99 per month for one dedicated spot, unlimited vehicle rotations, API access for dispatch, and usage records for every event.
Property owners
Turn underused parking spaces into recurring income — $49.50 per activated spot each month, with no hardware, no construction, and the ability to take a space offline at any time.
What AV staging is not
- · It is not consumer parking — no public reservations, no hourly rates.
- · It is not ride-hailing — Park AV never touches passenger or trip data.
- · It is not a replacement for depots — charging, cleaning, and maintenance still belong there.
Park AV is assembling its first staging network in Atlanta. Fleets get dedicated spaces with API-driven reservations; properties earn recurring revenue from spaces that sit empty today.
